Some Advice From a Fixer

“As you do not know what is the way of the wind, Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.”
Ecclesiastes 11:5

Do you ever find yourself trying to figure it all out?

I will tell you something about myself that you may not know. I am a fixer, a problem solver.

When I was a little girl, I once took my bike apart because it was not working properly and I was determined to fix it. I had no problem getting the bike apart, however, putting it back together was a totally different story. After many failed attempts I had to ask my Dad to help fix my mess.

Even now as an adult, I find myself in situations where I feel the need to figure it all out. If there is something going on in life that I do not understand then I feel it is my job to figure it out. If there is a problem, I feel as if I should fix it.

There are times when this type of personality can be helpful, yet there are other times when I get so busy trying to figure life out that I forget to practice my faith.

More times than not, I end up making a bigger mess of things. I find myself in the same situation I was in when I was a little girl. I have to go to my Dad for help. This time, however, I am speaking of my Heavenly Father, the creator of the universe.

After all my failed attempts at fixing my own problems or figuring out a situation for myself, I take my tangled mess and lay it at the feet of Jesus. I humbly confess that I just can not do it on my own. Each time I do this I am met with forgiveness and compassion. Jesus takes my mess and does what I can never do on my own. He makes it beautiful in His time.

The verse I have shared today is from one of my morning devotions. As I read this Scripture I was reminded that I do no always have to understand everything and that I do not have to fix everything. Oh, what peace I felt in my heart when I read the words in Ecclesiastes 11:5: “So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.”

Friend, if you are a fixer like I am, let me encourage you today. Stop trying to figure it all out. Life is full of things we do not understand. Praise God, we were not put on this earth to wander and struggle through each day. We have a Heavenly Father that understands all, knows all, and sees all. If we will stop trying to fix it ourselves and hand it over to Him, He will make beauty out of even the most impossible situation.

What are you holding onto today? What problem have you been trying to fix yourself, only to find that it is an even bigger mess now? Give it to God. Lay it at His feet. Confess that you can not figure this out on your own, and allow God to take it. You will be amazed at the outcome.

What Do You Do When Life Gets Crazy?

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

Have you ever had one of those weeks where it felt like you could not keep up? This week has been one of those for me. I would not say it has been a bad week, just a slightly crazy one. I would venture to say that all of you are nodding your heads in agreement right now. Life has a way of getting that way sometimes.

This morning I simply want to offer you some encouragement. For those times when life seems to be more than you can bear, for those times when things get just a little too crazy, for the times when you feel like life is dragging you along, God understands.

God understand that life gets hard. He understands that from time to time we are going to get overwhelmed. Whether it be an unexpected problem that arises, or whether you just have a crazy, busy week as I have had, God understands. He is there offering you comfort, rest, and peace.

Is it not wonderful to know that God is always there? No matter what the trouble, whether big or small, God understands. He cares about every single thing that happens in our lives.

When things get busy in my own life, I find it comforting to count my blessings. It always seems when I begin to count my blessings, that all my troubles just seem to fade away. You see, the closer we draw to God, the closer He will draw to us.( James 4:7-8a) The more we count our blessings, the smaller our problems will seem.

I pray this has been an encouragement to your heart today. Remember: No matter what happens in your life, no matter how crazy your day may seem, there is always something to be thankful for. There is a song we sing in church that says: “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done.”

Will you join me, today, in focusing on the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us rather than the trials we may be facing?

He is Here Right Now

 “The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17

Why is it that we often think of God as some larger than life being, who sits and watches us from afar off?

What  a sad, lonely place the world would be if this were true.

I want to start off today with a word of encouragement for you: HE IS HERE!

Does that give you a little more hope today?

I want us to realize that we were not put on this earth to wander around aimlessly, until our life has ended. No, God has placed us here for a reason and He is here!

Do you remember what Jesus told His disciples when He ascended into Heaven? He told them: “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.”( John 16:7) Jesus is talking about sending the Holy Spirit to be with the disciples after He has gone back to Heaven.

That very same Holy Spirit whom Jesus promised was coming then, still dwells here with us today. Is that not encouraging?

When life gets hard, when your day takes a turn for the worse, or when you are facing a trial, do not wonder where God is. Trust that He is here. He is working things out.

Life may not always turn out the way we had hoped or planned, but we can rest assured that God is not surprised. He does not mess up, He does not make a mistake, and nothing surprises Him. Now that is encouraging.

The last part of today’s verse says that the Lord rejoices over us with gladness, He comforts us with His love, and He rejoices over us with singing.

The Lord is not going to leave you. No matter how hard life may seem, no matter how bad your day gets, God is right there rejoicing over you, comforting you, and loving you every step of the way.

I pray today that you will allow God to cover you with His love. I pray that you will remember our verse from today and find comfort in knowing that we have not been left on this earth to just wander and wait. No! We have the Holy Spirit here to guide and comfort us. We have our Lord and Savior rejoicing over us.

I pray that these words have been an encouragement to your heart today.

God bless you.

God Knows…

sparrowAre not five sparrows sold for two pennies?

Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Luke 12:6-7

Does life ever overwhelm you? Do you ever feel like you just can not keep up? I want to encourage your heart today by telling you that you are not alone.

This week has been a very busy week for us. Our little girl graduated preschool, we are entering the last few weeks at school, and life just seems to be in overdrive right now.

After school yesterday I had turned the television on to the music channels while I was doing my cleaning. As I sat down for just a minute to try to catch my breath from all the running, a song came on called, “He Knows My Name.” Oh, what peace filled my heart as I listened to the words, “I have a maker, He formed my heart”! At that moment God spoke to me, and I was reminded that no matter how crazy life may get God is still right there.

You see, sometimes life starts to move so fast that we feel we can not keep up, but God does not look at time as we do.
God is an all-seeing, all-knowing God. He sees from the beginning of time all the way through eternity. Does that comfort your heart this morning? It should.

When I think about God and His love for me, when I remember that He knows the very number of hairs on my head, I am so humbled.

I do not know what life holds for you right now or what trials you may be facing, but I do know that God is bigger than anything that this life can throw at you. God formed this world by simply speaking it into place. He formed you in your Mother’s womb before anyone even knew you existed. (Psalm 139:13) There is nowhere you can go that God can not see you, hear you, or minister to your heart.

I know that life can get busy. I know that there are times when you feel so overwhelmed by the speed of the world that you wonder how you will ever keep up.
I pray right now that God will send His Holy Spirit to comfort your heart as He has mine. I pray that you will let God’s love wash over you right now, and that in this moment you will realize that you are not just a speck in this crazy thing called life. You are precious. God has made you that way, and He loves you beyond understanding.

I wanted to share this with you today. This is the song that has brought me so much comfort the past couple of days. I pray as you listen to it that you will find peace and comfort as well.

God bless you today!

I Have a Maker( He Knows my Name)
